Application deadline for the Fall 2010/Spring 2011 Artists’ Residency program is FEBRUARY 1, 2010. Notifications to applicants/recipients will be made by early April.

SEATTLE- Seattle’s Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with Seattle Parks and Recreation and the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT), seeks an artist or artist team to create a new media artwork for the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop.

Named for a Duwamish chief, the six-mile loop links more than 35 pocket parks and waterways around Lake Union. The multi-use trail connects diverse neighborhoods and passes through a variety of urban spaces, including residential areas, industrial areas and a working waterfront with historical maritime uses.

The selected artist or artist team will create a new media project drawing on the history and/or context of the site. Possible media include podcast- or cell-phone based audio work, audio and/or video tours using mobile media and GPS, and walking tours or interactive events using the Web.

The call is open to professional artists living in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, California or British Columbia. The $18,000 budget includes design, fabrication and installation costs. Once a thickly wooded place inhabited by the Duwamish Tribe, Lake Union is the geographic heart of urban Seattle and the historic home of lumber mills, boat-building and Bill Boeing’s first airplane. The Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs promotes the value of arts and culture in communities throughout Seattle.  The 16-member Seattle Arts Commission, citizen volunteers appointed by the mayor and City Council, supports the city agency.

The artist(s) will help them create integrated art for this newly remodeled facility that will respond to the context of the student and faculty.

This is a place of teaching and learning the art and science of human caring. A place where the individual learns about caring for humanity and contributing to quality of life of the community.

The Helena Public Art Committee (HPAC) seeks to commission site-specific artwork for the City of Helena, Montana to be located on the front, back and side of a series of 3 concrete arches  located on the east side of the Trolley Block of the Downtown Walking Mall.  These arches connect to a pedestrian stairway located adjacent to the north side of the Windbag Restaurant (Boston Block building).

Project Summary:
The concrete arches measure 21 inches wide on one side, 30 inches wide on the other side, are 12 inches thick, have a doorway opening measuring 5 feet wide by 8 ½  feet high.  Concrete measuring 9 feet wide and 30 inches high over the doorway opening.  The art will include the front, back and side of the 2 arches closest to the walking mall, and include the front side of the third arch.  The design may also address the rear walls that are seen by the pedestrian when approaching the stairs.  The design should not include paint applications on the brick side of the building Boston Block building although other artistic treatments may be considered.  The public art is to be installed in summer-fall 2009.

Budget:   $5,000 for the artist plus up to $2,000 for supplies
